The Clubhouse was a site-specific, immersive installation for a nightclub in Montréal, conceived and art directed by Krista Bursey in collaboration with Jenn Elliot. Developed within a condensed timeline, the project unfolds as a narrative environment — guiding visitors through a sequence of interconnected visual scenes.
The experience begins at the staircase, where a mural acts as an entry threshold, leading into the interior space. Inside, two large-scale murals anchor the environment, followed by a series of die-cut paintings on wood that extend the narrative across the club’s architecture.
Drawing from 1930s Art Deco aesthetics and filtered through a comic book sensibility, the work merges elegance with stylized storytelling. Each character was conceived as part of a larger fictional universe and developed in collaboration with invited Montréal-based illustrators: Krista Bursey (The Vamp), Carlos Santos (The Barber), Dewey Nguyen (The Fox), and Flexib (The Whisky Runner).
The project emphasizes both collective authorship and individual mastery, highlighting the distinct line work, detail, and visual language of each artist while maintaining a cohesive narrative world.
